Camp Improvements

by Tom Brewer,
Site and Facilities Manager

The new sidewalks are now complete! Each building at camp is now connected by ADA-accessible sidewalks, making it easier than ever for Camp Lutherwood Oregon to welcome everyone to camp. Now we move on to adding backfill and grass seed, so by spring everything should be green again.

We were also able to create a solution for the flooding in the lower campfire area by compacting gravel and a top layer of smaller gravel. The sidewalk project has been partially funded by a generous grant from the Oregon State University Outdoor School for All program. It is part of Lutherwood’s accessibility audit and plan. Please come and walk the paths around camp. They are wonderful.

A-frame cabins are getting new porches after their necessary removal for the sidewalk project. The new porches will be a little bigger and will be ready to welcome campers this summer.

Cascara, the first aid cabin, is currently mid-way through a remodel. The floor has been leveled, the bathroom is larger and now includes a shower, linen cabinet, and vanity and the nurse now has a more private sleeping area. Electrical upgrades include a new panel box, outlets, and light switches. Next up is new vinyl flooring, cabinets, and paint. Cascara is the cabin that keeps on giving and we are so thrilled with the upgrades. This project is partially funded by a grant from the Gray Family Foundation and individual donors.
