Camps across the country spend January and February on college campuses recruiting soon-to-be summer staff members. The process of hiring 30 young adults from a variety backgrounds can be exhausting, but the result is one fantastic summer.
In the last month, we’ve visited Northwest Christian University, George Fox University, Concordia University – Portland, Oregon State University, California Lutheran University, Concordia University – Irvine, and Pacific Lutheran University.
Each time, a member of year-round staff meets and talks to numerous students. Some of those students apply to join summer staff. Then we conduct interviews, collect references, and finally hire the best and brightest of the bunch.
These young adults bring months of planning and preparation to life. They are the counselors, cooks, lifeguards, craft coordinators, Day Camp leaders, program team, kitchen assistants, lifeguards, and site support staff that make a summer at camp possible. We expect them to take their roles one step further — and make this summer amazing.
Summer staff develop leadership, communication, and group management skills, while thinking on their feet to solve problems creatively with a team. They live in community and grow in fellowship and faith over the course 9 weeks.
What are your plans for this summer? Do you know someone between 18 and 25 who might be a good fit at Camp Lutherwood Oregon? Applications are open now!
(Pay starts at $210/week plus room and board. Staff training begins June 14.)
