This week Confirmation Campers learned the art of Folk Dancing! Two Folk Dance leaders, a caller and an accordion player, came out to camp Tuesday evening to teach campers how to do-si-do, sashay the doughnut, and swing their partner round and round!
We asked campers about the experience, and they had a few things to say!
“My favorite part of camp was probably the dancing,” Logan said. “We did traditional folk dancing and I really liked learning the do-si-do.”
“I liked the pigs and the wolves, where you were all in a line and someone had to run down and steal a person,” Annie said.
“I liked when we had to make a doughnut and people sashayed down the middle,” Claire said.
“It was really fun because we weren’t really worried about what we looked like,” Nyah said.
“I liked it because I’m a weirdo and I will do anything funny,” Charlise said.
“I really liked how people got really excited about it,” Alexa said. “I was dancing kind of crazy, and nobody was really shy!”
“You never really get to dance like that,” Maria said. “At school it would have been really awkward, but it is different at camp, and it was really fun!”
