Stephen Vorhes [back row, second from right] with the Board of Directors at the annual meeting in January 2016.

We remember Board member and friend of Lutherwood, Stephen Vorhes, with his friends and family. Stephen died at home on July 4th after a 3-year struggle with a rare cancer.

A native Midwesterner and talented vocalist, Stephen moved to Eugene in 1986 and worked as a land use lawyer for Lane County until this summer. As a member of Lutherwood’s Advisory Committee, he participated in discussions that guided camp’s 2012 acquisition of additional land.

Stephen shared his passion for music and the outdoors, as well as his Lutheran faith through his service to Camp Lutherwood Oregon in years on the Board of Directors and Advisory Committee.

He will be missed by fellow Board members, volunteers, staff, and friends of this place set apart. Stephen’s generosity and enthusiasm made a lasting impact on Camp Lutherwood Oregon and our entire community.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (July 14) at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Eugene.
