This week Camp Lutherwood Oregon hosted its 6th annual Forest Retreat for adults with disabilities! Forest Retreaters came to camp for three days, along with their caretakers, and had fun in the outdoors growing closer to God.

Forest Retreaters enjoyed all the classic aspects of camp. They led worship, sang karaoke, swam in the pool, had a costume dance party, played games and made s’mores!

This week is special for the entire camp community, Forest Retreaters and Lutherwood staff alike. It is a week full of friendship, laughter, love and a little glimpse of heaven as people with various levels of ability come together in the name of God. God’s love shines through this week, and it is truly hard to miss.

We asked Forest Retreaters and Lutherwood staff how they saw God’s love this week at camp. Here is what they had to say…

“I see God through tunes,” Forest Retreater Sean exclaimed as he played both his recorders at the same time.

“I see God’s love here, and it makes me feel happy,” Forest Retreater Brenda said.

“I have really enjoyed just seeing God through the adults,” Staffer Lukas said. “They have so much wonder for the songs and for creation. They are so kind and loving, it is really amazing.”

“This week is an example of how God’s love is truly everywhere,” Staffer Kaiti said. “We can see that through the interactions between the Forest Retreaters and the staff. I feel like they are great at expressing God’s love to one another.”

“When I’m here, it makes me feel like I’m loved, by everybody and by God,” Forest Retreater Nancy said. “I had the best, best, best, best time of my life here, and I’m coming back next year!”
